Status check discovers gun reported stolen in Arcata

HUMBOLDT HILL -- A routine traffic stop on Friday night led to the arrest of two men on drug and firearm charges.

With an active parole warrant for his arrest outstanding, Arcata resident Andrew Haid, 40, was also arrested for driving on a suspended license. Due to his parole status Haid is ineligible to post bail.

His passenger, 33-year-old Michael McBride, Jr. of Eureka was discovered with a loaded semi-automatic pistol in his pants. A status check of his gun revealed that it had been reported stolen by the Arcata Police Department. McBride was also holding a glass jar containing marijuana bud as well as concentrated cannabis tucked inside the sleeve of his jacket.

Both men were transported from the traffic stop at the intersection of Humboldt Hill Drive and Bongio Court to the county jail without incident. McBride was booked for being a felon or addict in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of concentrated cannabis and receiving known stolen property. His bail has been set at $50,000 and he will be arraigned on Monday.
