ARCATA -- Business loans and long-term strategic planning is in store for the Arcata Economic Development Committee when it meets this Monday, Nov. 10 at the Community Center.
According to city staff, up to six new jobs are at stake, depending on which way the committee goes on a proposed business loan to Wing Inflatables for operating capital and inventory. Wing manufactures original and replacement inflatable equipment for various buyers, including the armed forces, at its facility on Samoa Blvd. in Arcata.
Also up at the plate is an open discussion on how to make better use of the Arcata Baseball Park on F St. adjacent to City Hall. Currently the park is home to Humboldt Crabs baseball games in the summer, but is mostly vacant in the winter months.
The committee is also set to review the index of current economic indicators for Humboldt County, as provided by the Economics Department at Humboldt State University.
A seat on the seven-member body continues to remain open to any Arcata resident or worker -- it was vacated by Green Party activist Shaye Harty, who skipped town on a cross-country tour in support of her candidacy for President in 2016. Applications are available on the City of Arcata’s website (www.cityofarcata.com) or in the City Manager’s office. The deadline for applications is Dec. 5, after which qualified candidates will be interviewed by the City Council.
