KNEELAND -- The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a handgun that may have fallen out of a vehicle after a traffic accident.
A woman was injured Wednesday morning when she hit a tree in the 8000 block of Fickle Hill Road; she tried to drive to a hospital but crashed into brush along the 3000 block. She was able to walk to a nearby home, where medical aid and deputies arrived.
The woman said there was a handgun in her vehicle, but she wasn’t sure where it was and deputies who searched the vehicle were unable to find it.
Suspecting the gun may have fallen out on the roadway, deputies have searched a five-mile stretch of Fickle Hill several times in the past week, but have not found the handgun.
The Sheriff’s Office is anxious to find the weapon, a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, to make sure it is stored safely. Anyone who finds the gun is asked to call the Sgt. Philip Buihner at 707-445-7251.
