LOLETA -- An attempted murder on Sunday night has the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office hot on the trail of a Loleta man in an attack that may have been racially motivated.

Just after 7:00 p.m. last night, HCSO deputies were called to a residence on Weott Drive in Loleta for a reported assault, and upon arrival, they found Eliseo Alvarado Lopez, 39, bleeding from a head injury and an injury to his chest. Lopez was being treated by emergency medical personnel on scene when the officers arrived, and he was later transported to a local hospital to mend injuries that included fractured orbital bones.

In their investigation, deputies received reports that Cody Lee Meyers, 21, had struck Lopez in the head and chest with a golf club, and was making racial slurs towards Lopez prior to the attack. Meyers had fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival.

Meyers, a Native American, is 6’ tall and weighs approximately 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He also has a tattoo on his left arm which reads “Heather.”

Anyone with information about Meyers’ whereabouts should call the HCSO at (707) 445-7251.
