ARCATA – The City respectfully requests your attendance this weekend on an exploration of the local fungi community.

On Sunday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the City is venturing into the Jacoby Creek Forest with the Humboldt Bay Mycological Society to locate and observe mushrooms and other fungus species. To join the hike, meet in the parking lot in front of Round Table Pizza at the Uniontown Shopping Center, 600 F Street, to carpool to Jacoby Creek Forest.

Tour leader Scott Davison will share some of his findings from a three-year research project he has conducted to compile an inventory of the fungi in the Jacoby Creek and Arcata Community Forests. Hikers are encouraged to bring rain gear and water as well as wear appropriate hiking shoes for this hike, which is rated as “moderate” in a release from the city.

For more information, contact the City of Arcata Environmental Services Department at (707) 822-8184.
