ARCATA -- Humboldt State University junior Molly Louise McNulty of McKinleyville will attend the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

McNulty will be in Washington five days and said she is “incredibly excited.” A business finance major, she was named an Inaugural Scholar by the University Presidential Inaugural Conference in Washington, D.C., which invited her to the inauguration. She will join college students from across the country at the swearing-in of the nation’s first black chief executive, the forty-fourth President of the United States.

As an Inaugural Scholar, McNulty will watch the swearing-in ceremonies in front of the East Portico of the Capitol Building, the Inaugural Parade on Pennsylvania Avenue and meet with current and former White House officials, congressional staff and political experts at black tie Gala Inaugural Ball.

The Inaugural Conference chose McNulty for her “demonstrated leadership skills” and the “special character” she exhibited while attending the National Young Leaders Conference, which hosts high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to study government and meet with national political leaders and policymakers.

The youth conclave is sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, an independent educational organization founded in 1985 to foster student leadership.
