EUREKA -- Police officials are on the lookout for a couple who assaulted a 68-year-old Ferndale woman last night in the parking lot of Ray’s Food Place on Broadway.

According to an EPD release, the woman had walked out of the market at about 9:37 p.m. and started to put her groceries in the back seat of her sports utility vehicle when she was suddenly grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground by the purse snatcher, who is described as a white male in his late teens to early 20s with short dark hair and a red and black plaid long-sleeve shirt.

As reported to the officers who responded on scene, the assailant pulled her purse away from her and fled on foot to a waiting vehicle. The vehicle then sped across the parking lot and was last seen southbound on Broadway from Truesdale. The get-away driver is described as a white female in her late teens to early 20s with blond hair.

The EPD is looking for a white 90s-era Pontiac Trans-Am, or similar style vehicle, with an unknown plate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact officer Wayne Rabang at the EPD at (707) 441-4055.
